Michael Boyd joined CIBC Capital Markets in 2009 as Managing Director & Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions.  

Prior to joining CIBC, Mr. Boyd worked at Merrill Lynch & Co. for nine years, where he started as Managing Director, and then moved into the role of Head of Canadian Mergers & Acquisitions. Other investment banking industry experience includes working as a Managing Director at BMO Capital Markets. Michael also worked as a strategy consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and began his career at Ernst & Young where he earned his Chartered Accounting designation.  

During his over 30-year investment banking career, Mr. Boyd has advised on numerous significant cross-border and domestic transactions involving Canadian companies and has worked with many of Canada’s leading corporations, including George Weston Limited, Sun Life Financial, Magna International, Barrick Gold, Telus, Loblaw, Metro and Onex Corporation, among others.  

Mr. Boyd holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) from Saint Francis Xavier University. He is designated as a Chartered Accountant and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.  

From 2010-2016 Mr. Boyd was a member of the Board of Governors of Saint-Francis Xavier University and from 2017 – 2021, he served as Chair of the Board of Governors of the University. He is also a member of the President’s Council at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
